Indian Institutes Of Technology conduct IIT-JEE every year for the admission to its B.tech and other courses offered at IIT. IIT was established in 1956 under the Indian Institute of Technology Act 1956. IIT-JEE exam consists of JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Every student aspiring for admission to an IIT has to first appear for the JEE-Main examination. Once the student qualifies for JEE-Main, then they can appear for JEE-Advanced examination. Only if the student clears JEE-Advanced and obtains All India Rank, he/she can take admission into the IIT’s. This is the most important entrance exam for the candidates who are aspiring to pursue their career in the field of engineering and technical studies. There are 23 IIT Institutes. Each IIT is autonomous, linked to others through a common council which oversees their administration.

The Bachelor of Technology (Btech) degree is the most common undergraduate degree in IIT’s. Dual degrees integrating Master of science and Master of Arts are also offered. The Btech course is based on a 4 year program while dual degrees and integrated courses are 5 years programs. The candidates will be eligible for appearing in JEE-Main if they have either passed class 12th or equivalent examination in one of the previous two years of the year in which the JEE-Main is being conducted or appeared in the class 12th or equivalent examination in the year in which the JEE-Main is being conducted. The minimum eligibility for appearing JEE-Advanced is that the candidate must have passed 12th or equivalent examination from a recognised board of education with at least 75% marks.
The Joint Entrance Examination Advanced(JEE-Advanced) is an all India examination administered and conducted in 7 IIT zones across the country by Indian Institutes of Technologies. Graduate Aptitude Test(GAT) is an all India examination for various undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology for the admission to postgraduate engineering programs like ME,Mtech,Phd. GATE is conducted jointly by Indian Institutes of Science IIT’s. Joint Admission Test(JAM) exam is conducted for admission to MSc, Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-MTech and other post bachelor degree programs at IIT andIISc.
